Marco Santarini is a retired admiral from the Italian Navy, having completed gunnery at the Naval Academy. In 1989, he attended the Royal Naval Staff Course at Greenwich, London, and in the following years obtained a BA and MA in Naval Science. Santarini has held various positions in the materiel sector and in his last job was Deputy Director at the Italian Institute for Advanced Defense Studies in Rome. His previous publications include articles on the evolution of naval fire control systems and an analysis of the effectiveness of the weapons used by the Venetian navy in the 16th century.
