As of 2018, about 100 cherry trees can be found around the National Harbor, including the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center.
Then, last year, National Harbor planted 100 Okame cherry trees, and this year will be the first year they will be seen in full bloom.
“Right on the waterfront, on the Harbor Walk that takes you across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, you’ll see trees and they’re close to blooming,” said Deborah Topik, National Harbor Marketing Director.

You'll also find some seasonal additions at Gaylord National Resort. It will start on March 23 and run until the end of April. The resort's soaring garden atrium will showcase more than 200 spring flowers, including daffodils, lilies and tulips.
As part of the National Cherry Blossom Festival, National Harbor and the Washington Japanese American Association will host Cherry Blossom Sunday, a free festival highlighting Japanese culture, on April 14.
Throughout the Cherry Blossom Festival, the Capitol Wheel will glow pink, while Fleet Street Lights — a free 30-minute nightly show with 4,300 lights hanging from the streets — will be programmed to be pink.

The cherry trees around National Harbor are only a few years old, so the blooms are not as lush as those near the Tidal Basin.
If the crowds along the Tidal Basin for Instagram photos aren't your thing, the trees at National Harbor should make for a more relaxing experience.

Also, many nearby shops and restaurants are participating in Japanese and sakura-themed events.
Other events will include origami and paper-making classes, and some bars and restaurants will offer bartending classes for those interested in learning how to make sakura-themed drinks.
There will also be a Loy Krathong festival, Topic said. Those who want to participate can write their wishes on a lantern and throw it into the Potomac River.
Finally, when the lanterns have been floating in the harbor for a while, they are collected and disposed of responsibly.
